Free Speech

Freedom Partners is dedicated to protecting the freedom of speech and association for every American—no matter where they live, what they do, or how much money they have. We believe that freedom of speech and association are vital for individual flourishing, robust democracy, and a thriving economy.

At nearly every level of government, freedom of speech and association are now under unprecedented attack. In our system of self-government, when someone finds other people’s ideas and opinions disagreeable or even reprehensible, the solution is more speech, not less.  Yet instead of persuading others to see their point of view, many in today’s society would rather use government’s power to bully their opponents into silence instead. These efforts are designed to discourage free speech and chill unpopular opinions.

Freedom of speech and association allow us to inquire, discover, and innovate in ways that challenge both ourselves and the status quo. They are the basis of a thriving marketplace of ideas and are essential to lasting freedom from oppression.
