Health Care Choice

Increased choice leads to better health care because it puts patients – not bureaucrats – in control of their own health and well-being.

Unfortunately, state and federal governments have spent decades restraining choice, which has driven up prices and decreased quality. Examples include U.S. Food and Drug Administration regulations that delay access to potentially lifesaving drugs and procedures, and scope-of-practice laws that limit the authority of nurse practitioners to examine, diagnose and treat patients independently—services that they are trained to deliver. There are hundreds of other examples.

Lifting senseless federal and state regulations would open the health care market to more providers and give patients greater freedom to choose the care that fits their budgets and improves their lives. Isn’t that what health care is all about?
