Excessive and unnecessary regulations prevent people from starting businesses or getting good jobs, or finding the opportunities they desperately need. Unfortunately for hardworking Americans trying to succeed, the number of government regulations has skyrocketed in recent years.

This ever-growing regulatory burden has a disproportionate negative impact on small businesses, which have been a leading driver of recent job creation. In fact, more businesses are now dying than starting for the first time in a generation.

From the Affordable Care Act to Dodd-Frank, newly enacted regulations are estimated to reduce the number of people in the workforce by millions over the next decade. Less employment means less opportunity and fewer chances for the least fortunate to succeed. That’s unacceptable.

It’s time to reel back regulations that force employers to spend time and money complying with unnecessary red tape instead of hiring workers and creating value for consumers. This requires restricting the power of unaccountable bureaucrats in Washington and stopping them from squeezing out entrepreneurs, small businesses and local institutions with onerous regulations.

Only by breaking down these barriers can we ensure a growing economy, increasing prosperity and well-being for everyone.
