Mark Holden on Alice Johnson: Justice Has Been Delivered

Post by Freedom Partners

Arlington, VA – It was reported today that President Trump has commuted the life sentence of 63-year-old Alice Johnson, a grandmother who has served 21 years in prison for committing non-violent offenses as a first-time offender.

Freedom Partners Chairman Mark Holden issued the following statement:

“We support common sense criminal justice reforms that end overcriminalization, protect taxpayers and reduce incarceration consistent with public safety. We applaud President Trump for commuting Alice Johnson’s life sentence after she served more than two decades in prison for nonviolent, first-time offenses. The president’s action provides justice to a woman who has more than paid her debt to society. Ms. Johnson’s case is a reminder that we need to continue working together on smarter criminal justice policies that protect communities, provide equal justice and help people who are hungry for a second chance.”
