Republicans and Democrats Agree: Terminally-Ill Patients Deserve the Right to Try
Post by Freedom Partners
Tens of thousands of terminally-ill patients and their families are counting on Congress to pass right-to-try legislation that would extend to them the hope they so desperately need and deserve: access to potentially life-saving treatments and medication. And while legislation to do so is stalled in both the House and Senate, Republicans and Democrats agree that Americans deserve the right to try.
Highlighted in a new national ad campaign launched by Americans for Prosperity this morning, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) recently noted, “People that have terminal illnesses deserve every opportunity and chance at survival” – a sentiment shared by President Trump and Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI).
This morning, Washington Examiner reported on AFP’s new campaign:
“Americans for Prosperity is launching a six-figure national ad campaign calling on Congress to pass a bill that would allow terminally ill patients to try experimental medications.
“The ads will run on TV and online and show members of both parties discussing the importance of passing the bill. It urges viewers to call members of Congress to voice their support for passage.
“The digital campaign will target House and Senate leadership, as well as Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, and Rep. Greg Walden, R-Ore., chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee.”
Along with Americans for Prosperity and its grassroots partners, Freedom Partners has long supported right-to-try legislation, urging Congress to send a bill to President Trump’s desk, where he said he will sign it. Freedom Partners will continue to deliver the call to Congressional leadership to do what is right for the patients who have no time to waste.
