Sen. Casey: We Need a “Fairer, More Efficient Tax Code”
Post by Freedom Partners
American businesses and families are struggling under our country’s outdated tax code. In the more than 30 years since Congress last implemented tax reform, the code has become a complicated mess.
Currently, our tax code is packed with special interest loopholes and carve outs that benefit the wealthy and well-connected at the expense of small businesses and ordinary Americans. Making matters worse, the corporate tax rate is wildly out of step with the global average rate, putting American businesses at a disadvantage under some of the highest taxes in the industrialized world.
More than 70 percent of Americans think the economy is rigged in favor of the rich and powerful—and they’re right. Our tax code perpetuates a two-tiered economy where well-connected special interests use an army of lobbyists to benefit at the expense of everyone else.
Now, Congress has the once-in-a-generation opportunity to help un-rig this broken system and fix our tax code. Freedom Partners has been urging lawmakers to pass comprehensive tax reform that creates a simplified, more efficient, equitable and predictable tax code – without placing new burdens on taxpayers.
One lawmaker who should be excited to implement this kind of reform is Pennsylvania Senator Bob Casey. He’s been advocating for a “fairer, more efficient tax code” for years.
Casey has called for tax reform that is “easier to administer and leads to economic growth.” In 2013, he urged his fellow senators to level the playing field, creating an “internationally competitive tax system for American businesses—domestic and global, large and small.”
“This Congress has a unique opportunity to reform our tax code so it works better for businesses and middle-class families,” he said in 2015.
After years of advocating for tax reform, Casey can now get to work on un-rigging the economy for everyday Americans who deserve tax relief, more job opportunities, higher wages and greater economic security the most. He shouldn’t let this opportunity to enact historic reforms pass.

Freedom Partners is highlighting remarks from key senators who have – in their own words – long-advocated for overhauling the U.S. tax code to grow the economy, lower tax rates, close loopholes and special interest tax breaks, and encourage American businesses to compete globally.
