Post by Freedom Partners

Arlington, VA – In response to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s announcement that he’ll bring the First Step Act to the Senate floor for a vote in the coming days, Americans for Prosperity and Freedom Partners had this to say:

Americans for Prosperity President Tim Phillips issued the following statement:

“We’re pleased that Leader McConnell will bring the bipartisan First Step Act to the Senate floor for a vote. This groundbreaking legislation will enhance public safety, save taxpayer dollars, and provide a second chance to hundreds of thousands of people who have earned it. This highly popular bill should pass through the Senate easily and we hope to see it taken up on the floor quickly.”

Freedom Partners Chamber of Commerce Chairman Mark Holden expressed support:

“We applaud Leader McConnell for doing the right thing by agreeing to take up the bipartisan First Step Act. This extremely popular legislation, which passed the House 360-59, will reduce crime, make our communities safer, and help many people get a much-needed second chance. The bill is likely to receive overwhelming support from members of both parties on the Senate floor and we hope to see a vote scheduled as soon as possible.”
