Congressional Earmark Return Would Undermine Efforts to Unrig Broken System
Post by Freedom Partners
Arlington, VA — Freedom Partners Chamber of Commerce today joined a coalition of organizations urging lawmakers to reject any renewed consideration for reinstating the earmark process currently banned by Congress.
“We, as the undersigned organizations, strongly object to any move to bring back earmarks and urge further reforms of the process in order to ensure the fiscal sanity, accountability, and small government policy your constituents demand,” 31 organizations said in a letter.
Freedom Partners Executive Vice President Nathan Nascimento issued the following statement:
“For decades, the earmarking process allowed lawmakers in Washington to put well-connected special interests ahead of hardworking taxpayers under a rigged system. Congress and the administration should flatly reject any effort to bring earmarks back, which would undermine the positive steps recently taken to fix this broken system through a simpler and fairer tax code benefiting all Americans.”
