Despite Delay, Tariffs Remain a Threat to American Consumers and Businesses
Post by Freedom Partners
Arlington, VA – Following the Trump administration’s decision to postpone tariffs on steel and aluminum on Canada, the European Union and Mexico, Freedom Partners Executive Vice President Nathan Nascimento issued the following statement:
“Though the Trump administration deserves credit for again delaying steel and aluminum tariffs that would have made a bad situation even worse, American consumers and businesses need more than just a temporary stay. The administration should make permanent its current exemptions and initiate a productive dialogue with China to address its concerns.
“This is another teachable moment for U.S. policymakers about the benefits of trade. It expands access for American business to new markets – creating jobs; reduces prices for consumers; and forces other nations to reconsider harmful trade practices. We need trade policy that facilitates more global commerce without the impediments of tariffs, quotas or similar restrictions that undermine those benefits through self-inflicted damage.”
