Freedom Partners Applauds House Vote Advancing Rescission Package
Post by Freedom Partners
|Arlington, VA – The U.S. House of Representatives voted last night to pass the Spending Cuts to Expired and Unnecessary Programs Act (H.R. 3), a bill sponsored by House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), a measure to formally rescind the $15 billion in unneeded spending identified by the White House.
Freedom Partners Executive Vice President Nathan Nascimento issued the following statement:
“Whatever steps Congress can take to begin repairing the damage done by the trillion-dollar omnibus will be good for the American economy. We applaud the House’s decision to advance this rescission package. Politicians in Washington like to talk about fiscal responsibility but actions like this show the American people they are willing to begin to rein in out-of-control spending. This bill won’t solve Washington’s spending problem, but it is an important first step toward addressing a growing budget crisis. We are urging lawmakers in the Senate to pass companion legislation and will continue to work aggressively to protect American taxpayers.”
Companion legislation (S.2979) sponsored by Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) was introduced in the Senate at the end of May.
The Congressional Budget and Impoundment Control Act 1974 empowers the president to send a rescission message to Congress specifying the accounts, programs, and amounts to be rescinded. The funds are then locked down for 45 days allowing Congress to either approve, modify, or ignore the president’s rescission request.
