Freedom Partners Applauds White House, Congress Decision to Drop BAT; Commits to Helping Unite Americans Behind a Positive Vision for Tax Reform

Post by Freedom Partners

Arlington, VA — The administration and congressional leaders today released a joint statement on tax reform in which they agreed to exclude a controversial Border Adjustment Tax (BAT) from tax reform legislation.

Freedom Partners Chamber of Commerce has advocated for a simplified, more equitable, efficient and predictable tax code that doesn’t place additional burdens, such as a BAT, on hardworking taxpayers.

Freedom Partners Chairman Mark Holden issued the following statement:

“We are pleased that the BAT debate is behind us. The joint statement released today is a welcome step toward a unified plan to fix our broken tax code.

“Freedom Partners will continue to work with Congress and the administration to un-rig the economy and unite the country behind our positive vision for tax reform.

“Millions of ordinary Americans are trapped in a failed and hopeless economy making higher wages and a better life more difficult. They are counting on lawmakers to enact comprehensive tax reforms that will help individuals improve their lives, and restore hope that America’s best days are ahead.”

In May, Freedom Partners and Americans for Prosperity announced a multi-million dollar campaign to unite Americans around a positive vision for comprehensive tax reform that largely mirrored principles outlined by the Trump administration.

As part of this effort, Freedom Partners recently launched a new digital campaign encouraging key lawmakers to pass comprehensive tax reform built around five key principles for a simpler, fairer and flatter tax code.

Freedom Partners is currently highlighting ten senators who have – in their own words – advocated for overhauling the U.S. Tax Code to grow the economy, lower tax rates, close loopholes and special interest tax breaks, and encourage American businesses to compete globally.
