Holden: DOJ Expansion of Asset Forfeiture Unjust and Unconstitutional

Post by Freedom Partners

Arlington, VA – Freedom Partners Chairman Mark Holden issued the following statement on Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ reinstatement and expansion of civil asset forfeiture at the Department of Justice.

“We are disappointed that the Attorney General has decided to continue and expand the practice of civil asset forfeiture. It’s unjust and unconstitutional. We agree with Justice Clarence Thomas, who recently noted that these operations ‘frequently target the poor and other groups least able to defend their interests.’ And we should not be asking our brave law enforcement officers to engage in these practices, which are inappropriate and inconsistent with their proper role of keeping communities safe.”
