Senate Advances Bipartisan #FirstStepAct

Post by Geoff Holtzman

Arlington, VA – The U.S. Senate voted this evening 82-12 to invoke cloture on the bipartisan First Step Act and proceed to debate on the bill. The bill’s advancement marks yet another milestone on the road to final passage before the end of the year.

Freedom Partners Chairman Mark Holden issued the following statement:

“We applaud the overwhelming majority of senators who came together across the aisle to advance the smart-on-crime First Step Act. We would like to thank each senator who chose to put good policy over partisan politics and we urge every senator to oppose amendments that are intended as ‘poison pills’ or would lessen the impact of the reforms. We look forward to final passage of a clean bill as soon as possible.”
