Statement on Reid-Obama Lame Duck Spending Push
Post by Geoff Holtzman
Arlington, VA — Freedom Partners continues to urge Senators to reject the Reid-Obama approach seeking to punt a trillion-dollar spending bill into the lame-duck session of Congress. Passing a short-term continuing resolution into December would open the door to increased spending, backroom deals, and billions in handouts to special interests – negotiated by unaccountable lawmakers and signed by an unaccountable President.
Freedom Partners senior policy advisor Andy Koenig issued the following statement:
“For lawmakers who want to demonstrate that their commitment to fiscal responsibility extends beyond rhetoric, now is the time to stand up to President Obama and Harry Reid’s lame-duck spending bill. Pushing a ‘must-pass’ spending bill to a lame-duck session will result in exactly the kind of unaccountable, backroom deals and special interest handouts that Americans reject. Congress should protect taxpayers by passing a clean continuing resolution into next year that averts the crisis scenario that inevitably leads to bad deals and reckless spending.”
Last week, Freedom Partners joined with Americans for Prosperity and a coalition of over 30 free-market groups in an effort to stop lame-duck spending and corporate welfare.
