Tariffs ‘Grist for the Mill’ to Grow Government
Post by Freedom Partners
ARLINGTON, VA – As American businesses inundate Washington ahead of today’s deadline to submit exemption requests from tariffs on $34 billion in Chinese imports, Freedom Partners Chamber of Commerce responded.
Freedom Partners Executive Vice President Nathan Nascimento made the following statement:
“Tariffs are taxes on American producers and consumers. As today’s deadline reinforces, tariffs also serve as grist for the mill to grow government’s influence over the U.S. economy. Rather than focus their energies on new innovations and customers, American entrepreneurs instead must flood Washington with petitions to win favor for their company over industry rivals as bureaucrats pick winners and losers. We can do better. Policymakers should abandon tariffs as a means to micromanage the economy. We should eliminate all trade barriers to fuel the U.S. economy and lower costs for all Americans.”
